TPLF Decries Stalled Pretoria Agreement Implementation, Calls for Urgent Action

2 November 2024

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has raised serious concerns over the significant delays in the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, a crucial ceasefire deal signed in October 2022.

In a statement issued on November 1, 2024, the TPLF emphasized the ongoing suffering of millions of Tigrayans, a stark contrast to the initial optimism surrounding the agreement.
The TPLF identified two primary obstacles hindering the implementation process:

Limited Government Commitment: The TPLF alleges that the Ethiopian government has demonstrated insufficient commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the agreement.

Internal TPLF Challenges: The organization acknowledges internal hurdles that have impacted its ability to fully implement the agreement.

Despite these challenges, the TPLF remains resolute in its pursuit of the Pretoria Agreement’s goals and the establishment of lasting peace in the region. The organization paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the people of Tigray and the Tigray Security Forces in their quest for peace and justice.
The TPLF urges the Ethiopian government, the international community, and all relevant stakeholders to prioritize the full implementation of the agreement. They also called upon the people of Tigray to remain steadfast in their support for the Pretoria Agreement and to continue their struggle for peace and justice.

The statement concluded by expressing gratitude to the people of Tigray, TPLF members, and the Tigray Security Forces for their sacrifices and unwavering dedication to the cause of Tigray.
