TPLF Admits Internal Turmoil, Vows Reforms

Addis Ababa – The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) is facing a severe crisis marked by corruption, abuse of power, and a growing disconnect from its base, according to party spokesperson Amanuel Assefa.

In a bid to prevent collapse, the TPLF has initiated a top-down overhaul, including a party congress and internal investigations.

Amanuel acknowledged the party’s “deepening crisis” and the loosening of its once ironclad grip on power due to internal dissent.

The TPLF’s authoritarian tendencies and disregard for democratic principles have been blamed for creating a toxic environment ripe for corruption and abuse.

A recent internal evaluation revealed rampant corruption, internal strife, and a growing detachment from the people. The TPLF has admitted its democratic deficit and pledged to bolster internal democracy and transparency.

The party will convene its 14th Congress in July to debate and implement vital reforms. The TPLF is also seeking to restore its legal status, revoked by the federal government.

To ensure survival, the TPLF plans to introduce democratic reforms, including free and fair elections for leadership positions and robust accountability mechanisms to investigate corruption allegations.

The party also aims to focus on grassroots mobilization and community engagement.

However, the path to recovery is expected to be challenging, as the TPLF grapples with deep-rooted issues.
