The Oromia Regional State Communication Bureau has emphasized that resolving political differences through force is not viable. Bureau Head Mr. Adugna Hailu called on other armed groups, similar to the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), to choose peace and reconciliation.
Mr. Adugna highlighted that the call for peace is not limited to the OLA but is extended to all armed groups in the country. He noted that a third party is unnecessary to facilitate the peace agreement, asserting that Ethiopians can solve their differences through dialogue and by leveraging their national values and wisdom.
“Political and ideological differences in the country can be resolved peacefully,” Mr. Adugna said, expressing the government’s commitment to repeated efforts for peace. He acknowledged that the conflicts in Oromia have caused significant challenges over the years, but emphasized that the Oromo people strongly advocate for peaceful resolution through dialogue and negotiation.
The Oromo people have urged all parties to bring peace based on Ethiopia’s cultural and traditional values, Mr. Adugna said, adding that it is essential to listen to the people’s voices. He noted that, following the peace agreement, the OLA members are moving to designated camps in all Oromia regions. He called for government and public support to ensure a smooth transition.
Mr. Adugna further explained the government’s responsibility to rehabilitate and reintegrate those who enter the camps by providing training and organizing their livelihoods. He affirmed that these measures are being implemented practically.
In conclusion, he stated that the peace agreement marks a victory for the people, reflecting their voices and aspirations for unity and stability.
