Ethiopia’s Media Urged to Lead in Nation-Building Efforts

Deputy Prime Minister Adem Farah, who also serves as the Head of the Democracy Building Coordination Center and Deputy President of the Prosperity Party, has emphasized the vital role of the media in supporting national transformation and serving the interests of the country and its people. He underlined that communication platforms should contribute significantly to the nation-building process.

At an event marking the commencement of Fana Media Corporation’s new operational agenda under the theme “We Build Ethiopia Together!”, several high-ranking government officials participated. These included Dr. Legesse Tulu, Minister of Government Communication Services; Muaz Tibebat, Board Chair of Fana Media Corporation; Deacon Daniel Kibret, Advisor on Social Affairs to the Prime Minister; Mohammed Idris, Minister of Peace; and Selamawit Kassa, Minister of Tourism.

During the event, Deputy Prime Minister Adem Farah stated that media and society are currently deeply intertwined, playing a critical role in shaping public opinion and fostering development. He highlighted the need for media institutions to make meaningful contributions to the construction of a strong and modern nation-state. The Deputy Prime Minister also called for focused efforts to advance the media sector as part of the broader national transformation process.

He acknowledged the challenges posed by disinformation and the dissemination of false narratives, which undermine societal progress and stability. As a response, he urged media organizations to prioritize credible information, foster innovation, and uphold professional integrity in their work. He also stressed the importance of creating competitive and modern media institutions that effectively support Ethiopia’s influence and reputation.

The newly established Fana Media Corporation is the result of a merger between the former Fana Broadcasting Corporation and Walta Media and Communication Corporate. This unified entity aims to be a robust and reliable media institution, actively contributing to Ethiopia’s social and economic development.

Adem Farah concluded by emphasizing the critical responsibility of the media in raising public awareness, ensuring transparency, and amplifying Ethiopia’s global standing through balanced reporting and impactful communication strategies.
