Ethiopia and the European Union (EU) have reached an agreement to further strengthen their bilateral cooperation.
The second Ethiopia-European Union Strategic Partnership Forum was held today in Addis Ababa. The discussions were led by Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gedion Timotheos, and the EU Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sophie From-Emmesberger, with the participation of ambassadors and representatives from 21 EU member states based in Addis Ababa.
Following the discussions, a joint statement was issued by Ethiopia and the EU, emphasizing their shared commitment to addressing issues of mutual interest. The dialogue focused on key areas such as combating terrorism, promoting lasting peace, stability, and reconstruction, as well as advancing economic development, finance, trade, environmental protection, and partnerships in migration management.
The meeting highlighted the importance of fostering Ethiopia-EU collaboration and strengthening intellectual exchanges. Both sides reaffirmed their intention to enhance bilateral cooperation to address shared challenges and opportunities.
The first Strategic Partnership Forum was held in 2023, following the signing of the Samoan Agreement between Ethiopia and EU member states. The European Union has been providing financial support to Ethiopia under agreements mediated by the EU and its member countries.
The partnership aligns with the EU’s strategic engagement framework established in 2016, aimed at reinforcing its ties with Ethiopia.
