Ethiopia and Algeria to Strengthen Ties with Joint Ministerial Meeting

Ethiopia and Algeria have pledged to further strengthen their bilateral relations by convening a joint ministerial commission meeting in the near future.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between Ethiopian Foreign Minister Dr. Gedion Timotheos and his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf. Both ministers emphasized the strong political cooperation between the two nations and their shared commitment to enhancing diplomacy on both bilateral and multilateral levels.

The discussions highlighted the importance of bolstering economic diplomacy and fostering closer ties in various sectors, including [specific sectors, if mentioned]. The ministers agreed to explore new avenues for collaboration and reinforce existing partnerships to deepen their relationship.

The decision to reinvigorate the joint ministerial commission dialogue in a more structured format is a significant step forward. The meeting is expected to take place soon, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This latest development builds upon previous interactions between the two ministers, including their participation in the first Russia-Africa Cooperation Forum in Sochi, Russia, in 2019.

During his official visit to Addis Ababa, Algerian Foreign Minister Attaf also met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed to discuss further cooperation.

Diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Algeria, established in the 1960s, have a long history rooted in mutual interests and solidarity.
