Ethiopia:- A peaceful public demonstration is taking place in Lalibela City, advocating for sustained peace and the continuation of development initiatives launched through collective efforts.
The Amhara region, including areas like Lalibela, a prominent tourism hub, has faced security challenges due to conflicts. In response, the residents of Lalibela and surrounding areas have organized the demonstration with a unified call to end conflict and uphold peace.
Participants are voicing their support for government-led efforts to establish lasting peace and emphasizing the need to resolve disputes through dialogue rather than conflict. The demonstrators also highlight the importance of preserving the progress made in development projects and urge their continuation.
The Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) reported that the demonstration showcases solidarity in advancing development and underscores the shared responsibility of fostering peace. Protesters carried messages such as “Peace for All, All for Peace,” “Lalibela Deserves Lasting Peace,” and “Conflict Should Be Resolved Through Dialogue and Negotiation, Not War.”
Residents expressed their firm belief that Lalibela, as a sacred site, should be free from conflict. They stressed that issues affecting the community and the country at large must be addressed through discussion. They also reiterated that peace is essential for tourism, which in turn contributes to sustaining peace.
Demonstrators reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively for the success of both peace and tourism, recognizing their interdependence.
